New Zealand will face the challenge of Indian in 1st T-20 International Match of the 3 match series at Wellington on Wednesday. Team India won the five-match ODI series comprehensively 4-1. It is interesting to note that New Zealand have the upper hand when it comes to bilateral T20 series against India. So far, there have been three bilateral T20 series between the two nations and New Zealand have won two out of those three.

India would be looking to continue their dominant run in the T20 series as well, but Mohammad Shami is not part of the T20 squad. So there is a chance of Siddarth Kaul getting a game in. Rishabh Pant might also come back in the playing XI in place of Shubman Gill. India is without their regular skipper Virat Kohli and arguably the best bowler in this format in the world right now, Jasprit Bumrah. Both are taking some time off from the game after the famous test series win in Australia. MS Dhoni will be back in T20s after missing the T20 leg of the Australian tour.

New Zealand defeated India by 8 wickets in the 4th ODI of the 5-match series at Hamilton and hereby the score-line of the series is 1-3 with India leading the series. Now the last ODI of this series shall be played on Sunday. Chasing a target of 93 runs to win, NZ achieved their target in 14.4 overs for the loss of only 2 wickets. For NZ, Ross Taylor top-scored with an unbeaten 37 runs while for INDIA, Bhuvneshwar Kumar picked up both the wickets. Earlier after losing the toss & being asked to bat first INDIA were bowled out for 92 runs in 30.5 overs. For INDIA, Yuzvendra Chahal top-scored with unbeaten 18 runs while for NZ, Trent Boult picked up 5 wickets, Colin de Grandhomme picked up 3 wickets while James Neesham & Todd Astle picked up 1 wicket each. Trent Bould was adjudged the man of the match.

Liverpool extend lead with Leicester draw

Liverpool capitalized on Manchester City’s defeat earlier this week, but not in the way they would have wanted as they drew 1-1 with Leicester to extend their lead to five points at the top of the Premier League. Liverpool took the lead within two minutes, as Sadio Mane Scored a stunning goal for the Reds. Then Maguire made Liverpool pay with the equailser in the second minute of first half stoppage time. After a free kick wasn’t cleared, the ball was played back into the Liverpool area and Maguire appeared behind the defence to score for the foxes. Liverpool are still at the top of the Premier league table with 61 points from 24 games while Manchester city are at the second Position with 56 points after the same number of Matches. 

1- Sathiyan highest ranked Indian, Manika Batra into top 50

Leading Indian Table tennis Player G Sathiyan rose to a career-high 28 in the world rankings while compatriot Manika Batra became the first female from the country to break into the top-50. Sathiyan gained three spots to achieve a new career-high ranking while Batra moved up four spots to be 47th. Indian table tennis experienced a historic 2018 when the men’s team won the country’s first medal at the Asian Games to end a 60-year-wait. Later in the competition held in Jakarta, Sharath and Batra combined to win a second bronze for India to cap off a memorable Asia campaign.

South Africa defeated Pakistan by 7 wickets in the 5th & final ODI of the 5-match series at Cape Town and hereby SA have won the series 3-2. Earlier in the match after losing the toss & being asked to bat first PAK scored 240 for 8 in their 50 overs. For PAK, Fakhar Zaman top-scored with 70 runs while for SA, Andile Phehlukwayo & Dwaine Pretorius picked up 2 wickets each. Then chasing a target of 241 runs to win, SA achieved their target for the loss of 3 wickets in 40 overs. For SA, Quinton de Kock top-scored with 83 runs while for PAK, Usman Khan, Shaheen Afridi & Mohammad Amir picked up 1 wicket each. Quinton de Kock was adjudged the man of the match and Imam-ul-Haq was adjudged the man of the series.

Let’s start with Hockey where the Indian women’s hockey team put up a spirited display to stun World Cup bronze medalists Spain 5-2 in its third match of the tour in Murcia in Spain. For India, young striker from Mizoram, Lalremsiami starred with a brace while Neha Goyal, Navneet Kaur and Rani Rampal maintained India’s lead after the initial setback in the first quarter. By virtue of this win, India have managed to level the series at 1-1. After having lost the tour opener, India held Spain to a 1-1 draw in the second game.

Moving over to Football where in the ongoing Asian Cup, Qatar punished unwelcoming hosts UAE 4-0 in a politically charged clash marred by disgraceful crowd behavior to reach their first Asian Cup final. The Qataris will face Japan in Friday’s final after goals from Khoukhi, Ali, Hasan Al-Haydos and Hamid Ismaeil sealed victory for the 2022 World Cup hosts amid ugly scenes in Abu Dhabi.

Continuing with Football where in the English Premier League, Manchester United fought back from 2-0 down with three minutes remaining to earn a 2-2 draw with Burnley. Manchester United had previously won all eight matches since their manger Ole Gunnar Solskjaer took charge. Meanwhile in other matches, Arsenal defeated Cradiff City 2-1, Fulham outclassed Brighton 4-2, Newcastle United beat Manchester City 2-1 and Wolves stunned West Ham United 3-0.

4th ODI Preview – NZL vs IND

New Zealand will be up against India in the 4th ODI of the 5-match series at Hamilton on Thursday. With regular skipper Virat Kohli being rested for the rest of the series, Rohit Sharma will captain the Indian team in his  200th ODI match. 

In some team news, New Zealand have recalled Jimmy Neesham and Todd Astle for the remaining matches, replacing Doug Bracewell & Ish Sodhi. India are likely to test their bench strength for the remainder of the tour while the Kiwis will hope for a better showing in the final two ODIs against India on the road to the World Cup, after being outclassed in the first three games.

In some more cricket news from the Indian tour of New Zealand, batting all-rounder Daryl Mitchell and fast bowler Blair Tickner have earned their maiden call-ups to the New Zealand squad for the T20I series against India. While Daryl Mitchell has been included for all the three games, Blair Tickner will join the squad for the third T20I, replacing Lockie Ferguson. Kane Williamson will captain New Zealand. Henry Nicholls, who was the stand-in captain against Sri Lanka recently, has been left out along with Glenn Phillips and Seth Rance. Trent Boult has again been granted some rest as a part of his workload management.
